Our waterfowl hunts are either
3 or 5 day. We are very fortunate that we have the North Saskatchewan River right next to us that holds the waterfowl till freeze up. So even on a dry year we always have the river to keep us in birds. Our waterfowl hunting area is about 200,000 acres of crop land consisting of peas, barley, wheat, and silage. We have 6-8 hunters
per week at camp, This allows for ample shooting for each hunter and allows us to have more quality shoots and reach bag limits more often on geese and ducks.
Every hunter is entitled to a 3 day bag limit which is 24 dark geese, 24 ducks and 60 snow geese. We always have plenty of shells on hand.
We usually target geese in
the mornings, but we will also shoot some ducks when the opportunity
presents itself. In the afternoon we hunt ducks on fields and
close to ponds with final approach blinds where we retrieve 100%
of the birds. The afternoon hunt is less demanding as we only put out ¼ of the spread of decoys in the field for ducks. By doing this we keep the birds in the area for the full season.
We transport all equipment in an enclosed trailer. The equipment we use is full bodied Big Foot decoys and a mixture of different sized shells. I have 2 sets of final approach blinds 1 for wheat or barley stubble and 1 for pea fields. Upon request we will use our willow blinds in September for hunters that find it easier to shoot out of. Once we fill
our daily limits we pack up and head to the Lodge where I have
a shop set up to clean the birds at no extra cost to you. If you
do not want to help you can have your birds cleaned at your expense.
Experienced spotters are the key to successful hunts. They live in the area and keep in close, personal contact with the land owners. They know where the peas are being planted and make sure that we have the same land access or more each year. We hunt from 15 to 30 minutess from the lodge so there are no long drives headed to hunt fields. Access to private land is the key and we look after that to keep you hunting.
I have two dog runs
if you wish to bring your hunting dog along. I also have a Chesapeake
for retrieving. All hunters stay in a lodge attached to my house
with all the amenities of home. I have renovated my lodge more with decks coming of the back heading to the new fire pit pad for easy access with a wood shed and fridge at your disposal. Your accommodations include 2
hunters per room with 5 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. We also
have full cell phone coverage, wireless internet, and satellite
TV. In the evenings, we also have plenty of room to socialize
while sitting around a bonfire.
